Empowerment Committee

The Empowerment Committee will guide the overall direction of the comprehensive plan, the KC Spirit Playbook. It will work with City staff to review important principles and concepts, community feedback, subcommittee work on specific topics, and to conduct technical analysis.

The Committee will also be a sounding board for draft recommendations and strategies to address issues across a variety of policy areas, and it will recommend a final draft plan to the City Plan Commission and City Council.

Another important role for Empowerment Committee members is to be a spokesperson for the comprehensive plan leading up to adoption and through implementation.

Possibly the most important role the Empowerment Committee is to keep the focus of the process on empowering neighborhoods and residents by ensuring the plan incorporates the values of Kansas Citians.

The Empowerment Committee is composed of residents, business owners, technical experts, neighborhood leaders, property owners, institution representatives, and others. The Committee represents a diverse array of Kansas Citians with a wide range of perspectives, interests, and priorities. The Committee is structured to balance these diverse viewpoints and empower neighborhood voices.

The Empowerment Committee is anticipated to meet on a monthly basis between March 2021 and the end of the comprehensive plan update process in mid-2022.
